Baby Steps

I was in session with a client who was telling me about the changes and transformations she was experiencing through our work together. When I reflected back “wow, this is amazing!!” she would say: “well, they’re baby steps”.

Until finally I said to her, “What other steps ARE there??

Somewhere along the line we were sold the idea of a “silver bullet”. The belief things need to happen quickly, and if they don’t our successes aren’t as exciting. Yet even though we all know the phrase, “There’s no silver bullet”, somehow it’s been etched into our psyche to WANT one. Deep down there’s a feeling that we need to figure it out NOW, and get it done ASAP.

But tell me, where in nature do you see things grow into their full expression immediately? Just the way a baby doesn’t take its first step and the next day run a marathon, your learning and growth takes time to integrate and solidify, especially if you’ve lived your life under the influence of limiting beliefs.

The most important (and most challenging) time to remember this, is just before you see the change actually happen. Before you’ve noticed those fears of not enoughness subside, before your partner finally starts acting the way you’ve been needing them to (or the one you’ve been waiting for shows up), and before the money starts rolling in.

You have to do the work, and then be patient, while continuing to show up for yourself and do the work. Even after you start to notice shifts, you still need to show up!

Think of a garden. You wouldn’t plant a seed, then come back the next day and say, “Where the heck is my apple tree??” You also wouldn’t see a seedling emerge from the soil and then decide to stop watering it or giving it sunlight.

This human experience is a constant tending to our inner garden. It’s lifelong. With flowers growing and withering, leaves sprouting and falling. Some days it will feel like a drag to get to your cushion, yoga mat, or altar to meditate, move your body, or simply pray. Go there anyway. And in time, you grow, grow, grow.

Nurturing your garden in solitude may be challenging during certain phases and this is where leaning into private coaching comes in. In a 3 - 6 month container with a fully curated program for you not only adds the RIGHT tools to your toolbox, but also gives you the accountability, hand-holding, and personal connection that will help you feel more free, more abundant, and more connected to who you truly are.

Send me a message and let’s see if it’s a fit xo
